Walking seems like a better and better alternative these days and unfortunately, flying seems to be becoming an increasingly bigger hassle. First they stopped letting you smoke on the plane, then they started demanding ID, then they told you to leave your soap and shampoo at home, and now the airlines have outdone themselves by losing a record number of bags during the month of August. Initially it seemed that restrictions on carry-ons could actually be helpful, but the fallout from the record number of check bags is a record number of bags that were either delayed, damaged, stolen or lost. After a 20% jump in the number of checked bags the airlines outdid themselves by increasing the number of mishandle bags by over 33% (about 14,000 a day). USAToday claims that things are back to normal now that restrictions on carry-ons have been relaxed - let's hope so.
