Sure 9/11 was five years ago and we're all much more travel-savvy than we used to be, but the Washington Post has a great round-up of almost fifty tips to make traveling in this crazy post-9/11 world a little bit easier. But we know you're busy, so TripCart read them for you and here are what we think are their top ten most useful hints-
- Print out your boarding pass the day before if you can - it makes check-in quicker, and if you can somehow manage not to check anything you can head straight to the gate.
- Spread out anything thick or heavy in your suitcase - stuff like peanut butter, books, dumbbells, etc. might not be easily recognizable to the TSA X-ray machine
- Get yourself a shiny new TSA-approved lock - apparently our friends at airline security are less likely to bust open your lock if it's gotten the nod from the TSA.
- Take solid versions of your favorite liquid amenities - get a hold of some solid soap, deodorant and shaving soap, as well as towelettes with insect repellent, disinfectant or sunscreen.
- Dress for comfort - if you're taking your shoes and belt off five times a trip to get through security, you'll be much happier if you're already wearing flip-flops and your Bermudas.
- Get an iPod - little distractions make time in line go by much faster
- Be nice - it's good karma, airport security is annoying but it's not TSA's or the airlines' fault - what goes around comes around, and be happy that you're traveling and not working
- Head to the entrance farthest away from parking if you're at a museum, theme park, etc. with metal detectors, there'll be less of a line
- Hit the road Jack - stay out of the friendly skies all together, fill 'er up and head out.
- Pay attention but don't get scared - no matter what's happening, always travel, travel, travel.
