Forbes has compiled a list of the best scenic drives in America from some of the elite in the auto industry. It appears that a lot of these folks picked roads close to home, but at the end of the day, it was California that got the most nods - the PCH, 17 Mile Drive, Death Valley to Mammoth Lake, Highway 25 near Pinnacles, and Mulholland Drive. Here's a short roundup of the best ways to spend your Monday off from work-
- Route 7 to Route 112 along the Housatonic River in Connecticut
- California's 17 Mile Drive outside Monterrey near Pebble Beach
- Route 40 from Uniontown, PA
- Las Vegas to Death Valley to Mammoth Lake (from Dante's View at 5,475 feet, you can see down almost 6,000 feet to the lowest point in Death Valley)
- Bob Lutz of GM couldn't come up with anything better than a drive through southern Michigan from Dexter to Unadilla
- Pacific Coast Highway 1 south of Monterrey (easy pick)
- Highway 25 in California near Pinnacles National Park
- "The Tail of the Dragon" along Highway 129 in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina has 318 turns in just 11 miles
- Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles
- America's first superhighway, the Pennsylvania Turnpike
- The 66 miles of the Angeles Crest Highway outside of LA gets the most props for its steep rise to over 8,000 feet above sea level
